An Evening by the Roadside — And a Lesson I Didn’t Expect

It was the 1st of August, 2025. I was riding toward Chohal that evening—nothing unusual, just another slow, somewhat humid day. The sky was quietly shifting, clouds gathering like a thought left unfinished. By the time I reached the outskirts, around 6:25 in the evening, a soft drizzle had begun. Not the kind of rain that soaks you immediately—but the kind that lingers, gentle and persistent, like it’s in no hurry either.

 I noticed a little cement ledge near a closed tea stall. So I sat down, thinking I’d wait it out.


What happened next wasn’t dramatic. No life-changing event. Just… a pause.


Around me, the city kept moving. Fast. People rushed past with umbrellas, bikes wove through traffic, autos honked like always. Everyone seemed to be in such a hurry. No one looked up. No one noticed the way the rain softened the harshness of the day. Or how beautiful the world looked when it slowed down—even just a little.

I sat there, doing nothing. Just watching.


A little boy ran with his school bag bumping behind him. Two girls walked together, talking loudly, barely noticing the splash of puddles on their legs. A man on a scooter was arguing on the phone while trying to balance his raincoat. Life was happening at full speed.


And yet, I felt strangely disconnected from it. In a good way.


The rain, the wind, the distant sound of a temple bell… it all came together like a quiet song. It was peaceful. Almost sacred.


It made me wonder: when did we become so busy that we stopped seeing the world around us? When did rain become a “problem” instead of poetry?


I didn’t stay long—maybe around an hour. But that short pause reminded me of something important.


Sometimes, the most meaningful moments aren’t planned. They don’t come with notifications. They arrive quietly—like rain on a tired evening—and ask for nothing but your attention.


And maybe, that’s what we’re all missing.


When was the last time you just… watched ?

No phone. No rush. Just you and the world, unfolding quietly.
